Why do I write?

  • To express my thoughts in writing.
    • Writing organizes my thoughts. Sometimes it even expands them.
    • Why do I need to express my thoughts?
      • My thoughts are (probably) unknown to others. I need to express them in some way for others to know.
        • Why do others need to know?
          • Because we live in a shared world. There isn't much I can accomplish if only I know my thoughts.
          • To pursue the life I want, I need to share my thoughts with others and give and receive help.
            • What is the life I want? (The Life I Want)
              • To create tools that help me and others live the lives we want.
              • To learn how the world works.
    • Why express through writing?
      • Actually, I want to express through drawings and music too.
        • I'm practicing drawing. (Why Do I Draw?)
        • I'm completely unfamiliar with music, so I'm thinking about how to learn. I need help!
      • I've thought of writing as the easiest and relatively accurate tool to convey my thoughts. That might not be true.
        • What makes writing better than speaking is that the output is easier to handle.
          • I still find speech (audio) harder to handle than writing (text).
        • The limitation of writing (or where I often get stuck) is that there are emotions or feelings that are difficult to express in writing.
          • Also, I think the left-to-right, top-to-bottom reading format might hinder information absorption. Sometimes diagrams or 3D images are easier to understand.
  • Why do I write in Obsidian? (내가 옵시디언을 사용하는 방법)
    • Actually, it doesn't matter where I write. I can write anywhere—paper notebooks, the memo app on my iPhone or laptop, etc.
    • The reason I mainly use Obsidian is to manage what I've written.
      • What I mean by "manage" includes connecting, reusing, and editing.
      • I think Obsidian makes my writing easier and helps me develop it.

Summary

  • Through writing, I can understand what I think and also convey it to others.
  • That's why writing is the most practical tool that connects me to the world and moves me toward the life I want.
